Government Relations Specialist (Nigeria)

Quality education for all

We believe that all children should be given the chance to reach their full potential. However, more than 600 million children in the world do not achieve foundational skills like literacy and basic numeracy – despite the majority of them going to school.

At EIDU, we are creating the next-generation ed-tech platform for children who lack access to the high-quality education that all children deserve. We currently serve a quarter of a million active students in Kenya, and we look forward to serving up to 30 million students by 2030. A recent Randomised Controlled Trial places EIDU among the top 10% of educational interventions worldwide, demonstrating a 65% increase in learning rates among children. We also have fascinating projects with leading technology companies to further enhance learning outcomes through AI.

EIDU is funded by well-known development agencies, foundations, and impact investors and we are about to scale our programs rapidly through partnerships with governments.

With a mission like EIDU’s, diversity of thought and background within our team is crucial. We value those who can bring a diverse perspective to our platform and help us provide high-quality education to as many children as we can across the globe. What you will do:

  • Work closely with the Head of Government Relations to manage key government relationships and programming, which includes:
    • Supporting government engagement in meetings involving diverse external stakeholders and building and maintaining priority relationships for the company.
    • Planning and coordinating stakeholder sessions, government workshops, and public events.
    • Establishing and monitoring short and long-term goals, policies, and operating procedures for the government relations function.
    • Conducting regional research and report writing.
    • Performing additional strategic duties as required by the Head of Government Relations.
  • Handle administrative and cross-functional duties such as:
    • Coordinating with the new country team to ensure quality deliverables.
    • Managing calendars, mailboxes, travel arrangements, and meeting logistics.
    • Providing backup support for team members as needed.
  • Map key government officials and develop management plans for each, including:
    • Creating and maintaining a dynamic database of key influencers and stakeholders within Nigeria’s education ecosystem.

Who you are:

  • A detailed doer – You have a track record of getting things done. You’re organised and responsive. You take ownership of every idea you touch and execute it to a fine level of detail, setting targets and engaging others. You can multi-task dozens of such projects at once and never lose sight of the details.
  • A creative problem-solver – Growing any organisation from scratch comes with massive and constant challenges. On top of that, EIDU works in often fragile, sometimes volatile low-resource communities and with complex government systems. You need to be flexible and ready to get everything done effectively, quickly, and affordably with the materials at hand.
  • An adaptive learner – You believe you can always do better. You welcome constructive criticism and provide it freely to others. You know you only get better tomorrow when others point out where you’ve missed things or failed today.
  • A data-driven decision-maker – When making decisions, you don’t rely on your intuition alone. You collect data, you analyse it and make decisions with clear justifications.
  • Collaborative leader with strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willing to travel: This role involves significant travel. Expect up to 50%

What you should bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree with superior academic performance.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in government program delivery or working in account management or as an engagement manager.
  • Experience working in or with government agencies is preferred.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal government issues related to the provision of primary education in Nigeria would be preferred.
  • In-depth experience building and systematically managing key complex relationships and accounts to ensure program delivery in a complex, multi-stakeholder program or project.
  • Excellent verbal and superior writing and report presentation skills.
  • A strong proficiency with calendars, document management, spreadsheets and analyses.
  • Understanding of the complexities of working with distributed teams (both in-person and virtually).
  • Ability to plan and conduct complex and sensitive administrative duties.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; able to act as an intermediary and a solutions driven lead, to ensure effective collaboration and communication between the government client and our organisation.
  • Prior experience within a fast-paced, high-growth, metric-driven operational organisation will be an advantage.
