Overview
The EIDU Platform
The EIDU Platform Is “Comprehensive”
The EIDU platform meets the unique needs of all key educational stakeholders with verified, impactful, adjustable content. Our system is customisable to local curricula, integrates into existing structures and works perfectly both online and offline.
-
All Stakeholders
The EIDU platform offers a comprehensive set of features that are tailored to meet the unique needs of all key stakeholders in public education.
For learners, the platform delivers personalised, interactive learning pathways that, as proven by an RCT, enhance learning outcomes to more than 1.5 years within a single year of schooling. Learning on the EIDU platform includes regular accredited assessments, play-based exercises and content sourced from leading providers such as onebillion.
For teachers, the platform supports their work with specific and tailored lesson plans, opportunities for training and real-time classroom analytics. For field staff (trainers), the platform facilitates simple and effective management and monitoring of educational initiatives, streamlining processes from classroom visits to data collection. And, finally, for civil servants and government officers, the platform gives access to data-driven dashboards, field management tools, and real-time assessment data to support strategic decision-making.
Through supporting each of these stakeholders to fulfil their roles in the most effective and impactful way possible, the EIDU platform drives measurable improvement of learning outcomes.
-
All Grades & Subjects
The current focus of the EIDU platform is the development of foundational literacy and numeracy rates (FLN). Under this focus, the EIDU platform is geared towards learners across pre-primary and early primary levels.
By integrating EIDU into these grades, Kenyan governments have already improved pre-school education for children across the country. Moreover, the EIDU system is growing, and plans are in place to span more grades and subjects, reach more teachers and schools, and improve learning outcomes in even more students.
-
Customisations & Integrations
The EIDU platform is an adjustable and customisable education solution. Content aligns with local curricula and is always approved by local governments.
The EIDU platform works to enhance existing systems, not to create new ones. Rather than build entire digital structures from scratch, the EIDU platform simply integrates into current technical infrastructure such as EMIS (Education Management Information Systems). The platform strengthens existing functionality, keeping costs to a minimum and supporting EIDU’s delivery of the highest value for the lowest investment
-
Offline Support
For many schools, access to the internet is no guarantee. Connection can be unstable, unreliable or even non-existent.
That’s why we designed the entire EIDU platform to function offline. The system works perfectly without the internet for months at a time. Our content and tools are always available, contributing to the 7+ years of successful use and minimal dropout rates of which we are so proud.
When internet is unreliable, we update when we can. As soon as a connection is available, systems sync with our server infrastructure, uploading usage data and downloading new content and functionality. This is done automatically, with no interruption to usage or learning.
We’re working towards a reality in which we can support schools with no internet connection whatsoever. Soon, EIDU field staff will be able to sync their smartphones with devices at these schools, transferring data to our servers when they reach connectivity once more. We call this peer-to-peer syncing (P2P).
The EIDU Platform Is “Reliable”
The EIDU platform enhances existing systems. We place governments in control of learning content, provide free and open-source content and prioritise robust data-protection.
-
Governments in Control
The EIDU platform is the infrastructure that enables governments to digitise their education systems. In practice, this means that governments gain tools from EIDU, but retain full control over how they are implemented and take the lead on the educational content curation.
As well as content, governments can decide which components of the system are used and for which learning objectives the system optimises. One, for example, might wish to place heavy emphasis on Social-Emotional Learning, while another may choose to focus on reading goals: our system is able to adjust to either.
-
Open Sourced
Our platform is the tool by which governments can enhance the existing education systems in their country. Once in place, the system is theirs to customise as they please. In fact, EIDU is in the process of open-sourcing our entire platform, ensuring that it is freely available to all who wish to use it.
-
Data Protection
The EIDU platform operates via a ‘Privacy by Design’ approach. This means that data-protection isn’t just a feature of our platform, it’s a foundation. Personal data is protected locally on every device, never stored on EIDU servers and never shared with any third party. All names and pictures of students are encrypted, and all data on our servers is entirely anonymous; we take data-protection seriously.
Review our Data Privacy Statement if you want to learn more.
The EIDU Platform Is “Affordable”
The EIDU platform enables governments to improve learning outcomes with minimal investment. Due to our cost-effectiveness and adaptability, we are a sustainable, long-term educational intervention.
-
Highly Cost-Effective
The EIDU programme has been found by Founder’s Pledge to be one of the most cost-effective educational interventions in the world.
EIDU is committed to maximising learning outcomes and to guaranteeing the sustainability of the platform after its implementation. To achieve this, we make sure that our services are affordable to governments.
Education budgets are often low, meaning that—in order to be implemented long-term—any educational solution must deliver a high level of impact per dollar of investment. EIDU’s platform does just this. We rely on very few physical resources (already operating effectively with as little as one device per classroom) and integrate seamlessly into existing technical structures (such as EMIS), minimising in both cases the investment needed to run the platform.
-
Tailored Implementation To Fit Any Budget
When it comes to implementing the platform, we’re there to ensure continued success and effectiveness, keeping operational costs at a minimum. We provide extensive hands-on operational support via local teams who work closely with government officials to implement our solutions and to train teachers and supervisors. Continuous program support, including school visits and supplemental training, is part of our implementation.
We ensure that our platform is tailored to specific local contexts, curricula, budgets, and infrastructure. For example, we integrate into existing technical frameworks, rather than build entire structures from scratch. We can also adapt our approach according to the number of devices on offer, operating effectively with as little as one low-cost device per classroom.
This flexibility enables governments to achieve substantial improvements in learning outcomes, even with minimal initial investment.
In the near future, our implementation may become even more cost-effective, due to the generosity of philanthropic donors and supporters. These donors, who are committed to building meaningful and lasting impact for learners, may enable us to support governments with covering critical startup costs.
The EIDU Platform Is “Future-Proof”
The EIDU platform adapts and updates to meet the changing needs of our stakeholders. We leverage emerging technologies to ensure we maintain the highest impact-per-dollar educational solution, and continuously evolve to deliver the most impactful learning solution.
-
Open
Improving learning outcomes requires collaboration from the global education community. The EIDU platform facilitates such collaboration.
Our approach to content is completely open, developed by governments and educational experts, thoroughly verified and integrated into our platform.
The providers of our content are leaders in their fields – structured pedagogy, for example, comes from RTI, and student resources from onebillion – and all materials have been scientifically proven to be high-impact. All integrated content is adapted to local curricula and government-approved.
-
Continuous Improvement
At EIDU, we are committed to the continuous improvement of our platform. We evolve to match the changing needs of the learners and teachers whom we support, and adapt to integrate new and improved technology.
Our dedication to improvement is woven into the fabric of our platform. At its core is our assessment process—the accredited, internationally verified tests with which we measure student progress and understanding. On the EIDU platform, these tests are frequent, play-based, and seamlessly integrated into student exercises. From these tests, our platform gathers millions of student assessment results on a daily basis, building a vast and continuously updating data pool for us to review.
There are two clear benefits here. Firstly, this simplifies analysis of learning development, since information on student progress is continuously updating.
Secondly, the continuous collection of assessment data gives us an almost real-time view of learning across thousands of students. This enables us to rapidly, accurately and comprehensively test the efficacy of new learning content.
-
AI
At EIDU, we leverage AI to improve educational outcomes without surrendering human connection. Our AI technologies personalise, tailor and recommend learning content, but teaching remains human-centric, led by real people in physical classrooms.
Both students and teachers benefit from content that is tailored by AI. For students, the EIDU platform uses AI to review, assess and analyse student progress and development. Exercises are suggested to each student based on this information, meaning that each learner is set tasks which are specific to their learning needs and level.
For teachers, the process is similar. AI-driven technologies allow for an in-depth assessment of learning levels in the classroom, and adapting the daily lesson plans for teachers to these specific learning levels to further increase learning levels.
